Overview

The PR manager is responsible for overseeing the development and execution of integrated external communications plans for the firm’s practices, pro bono activities and special initiatives.

 

The successful applicant will have an understanding of law firm practices and have the ability to position those practices and lawyers associated with them in the marketplace, including media outlets and rankings directories.

Responsibilities

  • Manage teams of professionals focused on PR, directories, and rankings.
  • In consultation with the Director of Communications and Public Relations, conceive and develop integrated communications plans for key practice groups and geographies
  • Execute integrated communications plans
  • Oversee various elements of those communications plans: PR campaigns, media outreach, programs for directories, rankings and other contests; editorial production to support the plans
  • Prepare quarterly reports on communications initiatives and results
  • Develop competitive intelligence program to monitor PR & marketing initiatives of peer firms in key practice areas
  • Manage outside PR consultants, and other consultants as needed
  • Develop and maintain contacts with key members of media

Essential capabilities:

  • Distill and communicate key messages rapidly and succinctly
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to partners and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of the firm's internal affairs and client matters
  • Be proactive in terms of communications ideas and execution
  • Advise partners on communications efforts, including media coaching
  • Understand, internalize and function in unique corporate culture
  • Interact comfortably with partners, senior associates, senior staff and various constituent groups

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree is required; JD not essential but beneficial
  • Minimum eight years’ of professional experience
  • Three-to-five years’ experience with PR firm, law firm or news organization preferred
  • Facility with print, broadcast and social media
  • Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels across all departments
  • Superior writing and editing skills; experience writing for and to lawyers and senior executives
  • Energetic, passionate oral presenter in an organized, fact-based way
  • Strong listening skills to digest, process and guide strategy and problem resolution
  • Strong research skills, including use of Lexis/Nexis and other research tools, such as media databases
  • Demonstrated success in leading PR initiatives for a world-class organization
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point

Compensation and Total Rewards Package

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below in alpha order and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

Boston $117,000 - $175,000

New York $112,500 - $184,000

Working Conditions

This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
