Overview

The Strategic Analysis team combines analytical and data storytelling skills to provide data-driven insights for leaders across the firm. Leveraging our expertise in the firm’s data, business model, strategy, and industry, our team leads collaborative projects to address open-ended business questions and develops novel analytical frameworks to meet evolving business needs.

 

The Analyst plays a crucial role in providing insightful analyses to address high-priority and strategic business questions for firm leadership. This involves conducting in-depth data analysis to support decision-making across multiple departments, including Finance, HR, Client Development, Attorney Talent, and others. To excel in this role, the Analyst must apply their knowledge of the firm’s business model and strategy, as well as their data visualization skills, to effectively connect data and analysis to the business context. The responsibilities of the role are both ad-hoc and project-based and require collecting relevant data, analyzing it in a structured manner, identifying trends and insights, and communicating findings via thoughtful deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Lead open-ended, analytical projects that address key business questions from firm leadership; includes framing the business question, scoping and gathering relevant data, conducting quantitative analysis, and communicating insights using the principles of data storytelling
  • Approach projects with a logical and analytical mindset, independently employing a systematic and structured approach to problem-solving
  • Collect, analyze, structure, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data from various internal and external sources; use data to identify trends and begin to draw implications
  • Collaborate closely with internal clients and stakeholders to understand their objectives and challenges and tailor analyses accordingly
  • Evaluate results of complex analyses and interpret into actionable recommendations and meaningful insights for firm leadership and other stakeholders
  • Acquire subject matter expertise in the data, systems, and processes across the firm and how they interconnect
  • Develop advanced knowledge of firm structure, clients, and key business drivers to inform analyses for firm leadership
  • Partner with various stakeholders (e.g., financial systems, information technology groups) to identify improvement opportunities in data quality and governance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, management, analytics, or other related field required
  • 2+ years of relevant experience, demonstrating strong analytical skills, project management, and team collaboration
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Experience with data visualization and storytelling to create compelling and effective presentations
  • Ability to distill complex data into key findings and actionable intelligence
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with ability to manage multiple, high-priority projects
  • Comfort with ambiguity and high autonomy on projects
  • High level of initiative and self-motivation
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Adept at querying and analyzing data using business intelligence tools (Tableau, MicroStrategy, or Alteryx is a big plus)

Compensation and Total Rewards Package

Ropes & Gray is proud to offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package to our business support team members. The anticipated pay range for this role is $72,500 - $108,000 in NY, which represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

Working Conditions

This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
