Overview

Ropes & Gray is seeking a proposals manager to lead the proposals team, which is an important part of the global marketing and business development department. The proposals manager will be responsible for the management, execution, delivery and tracking of requests for proposals, RFPs, including preferred provider program submissions, and customized pitch materials, working with business development, practice development, attorneys, and others. This individual should have a strong understanding of industry best practices and techniques. The proposals manager will manage the proposals team, oversee the pitch database, establish best practices for managing the response process, and update and improve firm content in the central pitch/RFP content repository.

  • Create a best-in-class process for accessing and responding to proposals, pitches, and RFPs, including tools and templates to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Ensure the firm responds to client requests with well-crafted, on-brand, timely and strategic materials.
  • Establish a clear, efficient, and timely process for responding to key preferred provider programs, RFPs and other customized pitch materials, working closely with business and client development, practice development, attorneys, and other team members.
  • Provide strategic direction to colleagues for RFP responses, pitches, and proposals, ranging from single-practice matter RFPs to global cross-practice panel RFPs.
  • Provide technical expertise in RFP online portals and technology.
  • In collaboration with business and practice development teams, help draft standard responses, leverage templates, and repurpose credentials in pitch, proposal and RFP responses.
  • Manage a comprehensive pitch content library, ensuring materials are high-quality, strategic, and reflective of best practices in the industry. Develop and implement best practices for managing firmwide knowledge and practice-specific content.
  • Manage and maintain a proposal database inclusive of credentials, prior proposals and templates with advanced search capabilities across practice, industry, geography, size and other material factors.
  • Manage the transition of existing pitch database, including pitch log, to a new platform.
  • Continuously refine how we respond to client requests, aiming for a quicker, smoother process.
  • Stay current on industry trends, competitive landscapes, and best practices in proposal development to ensure pitches and proposals are innovative, compelling, and aligned to client needs and market demands.
  • Work with business support departments to keep frequently requested information up to date.
  • Track, analyze, and report on proposal, pitch, and RFP outcomes.
  • Work with marketing and business development teams to ensure branding standards are followed on pitch and proposal materials.

Qualifications

Technical Skills

 

  • Strong MS Office experience (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Acrobat), required.
  • Experience with proposal generation system(s).
  • Knowledge of Foundation, preferred, knowledge of Content Pilot a plus.
  • Experience with online RFP submission portals (e.g., Persuit).

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 6-10 years business development experience.
  • Prior law firm or professional services experience preferred.
  • Prior proposal and RFP experience.
  • Prior Foundation, Content Pilot, and/or other content management system and proposal generator tool experience preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and project management skills.

Compensation and Total Rewards Package

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

 

Boston: $123,200 - $187,950

New York: $129,100 - $196,900

Working Conditions

This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
