Overview

The Senior Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst will provide advanced competitive intelligence research and analysis for requests emanating from the Business Development, Marketing, Practice Development, and Lateral Partner Recruiting teams, including, but not limited to in-depth research and analysis of companies, industries, markets, technologies, and competitors using a comprehensive variety of online tools and resources.

 

The Senior Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst will formulate, develop, and communicate insightful and actionable intelligence to aid strategic decision-making to drive business development, profitability, growth, client retention and other related business opportunities. 

 

The Senior Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst will be expected to have in-depth knowledge and the ability to stay abreast of industry trends, monitor financial data, and articulate opportunities for the firm.

 

The Senior Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst has a direct reporting line to the Manager of Competitive Intelligence Research.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on industries, markets, clients, and competitors to support firmwide campaigns and strategic growth initiatives
  • Provide deep level of analysis of research findings and synthesize key points in concise and compelling work product deliverables 
  • Benchmark the firm's performance against competitors and identify opportunities for differentiation
  • Work closely with all areas of Business Development, Marketing, Practice Development, Strategy, and Lateral Partner Recruiting teams
  • Assist with the testing and deployment of innovative technology solutions, such as AI
  • Stay abreast of trends and technologies in the legal industry
  • Provide regular status reports on research activities and accomplishments to management

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES:

  • Ability to distill, synthesize, and manipulate large datasets and complex information into key concepts and actionable intelligence
  • Deep knowledge of AmLaw100 firms, including services provided and client industries/sectors. Knowledge of Corporate Transactions & Private Equity / M&A a plus
  • Experience using corporate and legal research tools, including PitchBook, Preqin, Capital IQ, Bloomberg Law, Lexis, Westlaw, and Intelligize
  • Expertise with MS Office, especially Excel, for analyzing and presenting information
  • Working experience with GAI/AI tools such as Harvey, ChatGPT, AlphaSense, vLex, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of business and legal analytics, as well as financial datasets
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently manage multiple complex projects with competing deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to assimilate into existing teams and work effectively in a culturally and educationally diverse environment

  

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • MLS or MBA required; higher educational degree(s), such as a JD, considered
  • 5+ of competitive intelligence or market research/analysis experience in a law firm or corporate environment
  • Strong written communication skills coupled with the ability to analyze and present complex information
  • Proven ability to organize and manage a diverse range of competitive intelligence projects and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, organizing, and distributing appropriate competitive intelligence content to key stakeholders
  • Knowledge of foreign language(s) desired

Compensation and Total Rewards Package

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

 

Chicago: $107,100 - $163,350

New York: $112, 200 - $171,150

Working Conditions

This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
