Overview

The Senior Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis will lead a team focused on practice, office and client performance management. This team has direct reporting relationships with multiple senior stakeholders: Practice Group Leaders, Office Managing Partners, Client Coordinating Lawyers, C-level and other senior support team leaders. The Senior Manager will maintain relationships with these leaders to monitor performance, educate partners, provide strategic guidance and input, and to ensure that our reporting and analysis aligns with each unit’s strategy and objectives. They will be an advisor providing insights, interpreting results and guiding business units in decision making. They will also share their interpretation of practice, client, and office results to firm leadership, especially the CFO.

 

This role is also responsible for developing client analytics, most notably the creation of categories and formalized process around how to identify trends and movements that could signal long-term growth opportunities for the firm. This will involve providing both a descriptive, backwards looking element and a predictive, forward-looking element to this work.

 

The Senior Manager will lead a multi-tiered team of several analysts ensuring quality control and individual career development, and long-term vision for the function. In addition to business leader support and client analytics, they will be a leader on the broader FP&A team, contributing to the team’s goals via various cross-functional projects and mentoring. The Senior Manager will take the lead on several key initiatives core to the FP&A department’s development. A key to success will be the ability to motivate and lead team members at different stages of professional development.

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Trusted advisor for multiple key firm leaders, including Practice Group Leaders, Office Managing Partners, Client Coordinating Lawyers, C-level and other senior support team leaders.

 

  1. Responsible for providing education and performance management guidance, as well as regular client level reporting to partners, business team and client(s); leverage knowledge of various groups to develop in-depth analyses and effective communication methods to ensure that support teams are addressing current business challenges.

 

  1. Conduct regular analyses of client metrics and trends; identify underlying causations and translate results into actionable findings for lawyers and, where applicable, support teams.

 

  1. Collaborate with various business functions to lead projects, respond to internal data questions or client inquiries; includes developing effective presentation materials for client(s) and internal management incorporating analysis of financial data.

 

  1. Lead the team’s offshore MicroStrategy development efforts.

 

  1. Lead a broad range of change management initiatives; propose solutions to leadership that may ultimately require behavior change from the functional groups.

 

  1. Manage and develop a multi-tiered team, ensuring long-term growth and short-term quality control.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of a four-year degree in accounting, finance, economics or a related field. MBA preferred.                     
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience at professional services firms required.
  • Must be proficient with spreadsheet and database software and use technology effectively.
  • Track record of personnel development and management.
  • Strong ability to communicate with senior leadership.

  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, including firm leadership, management staff and support staff.
  • Ability to be a proactive self-starter, who understands the details within a much larger context.
  • Must work in a self-directed manner, producing an accurate, well-documented work product often under time sensitive scheduling and where multiple projects are required concurrently.
  • Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as strict attention to confidentiality.
  • Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities; ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple, detailed tasks.
  • Must be team-oriented and able to share information, goals, opportunities, successes, and failures with the appropriate parties.
  • Ability to plan, organize and carry out multiple related activities.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

Compensation and Total Rewards Package

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

 

  • Boston: $142,500 - $228,050

Working Conditions

This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
