Overview

Participates as a team member and assists attorneys, senior paralegals and litigation technology professionals in various litigation matters by playing a key role in the work required to support the firm's clients.  This hands-on position provides support to case teams in all aspects of litigation support, through trial and the appeal process.  Manages and utilizes automated litigation support tools.  Availability for overtime and flexibility for travel are required.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinates and manages filing of administrative appeals and documentation.  Prepare and submit filings through CM/ECF, agency portals, and e-filing systems. 
  2. Assist attorneys with all stages of healthcare reimbursement litigation and appeals, including compiling administrative records, drafting pleadings, and preparing filings for courts. 
  3. Creates, implements and maintains organizational systems, including, but not limited to, document collection, review and tracking logs, and exhibit logs.
  4. Assembles exhibits and appendices for court papers and hearings. Prepares for and attends hearings as necessary.
  5. Creates, implements and maintains case file and workroom organizational systems.
  6. Understands intermediate database concepts and terminology. Assists and coordinates automated litigation support projects through utilization of technology, including, but not limited to, database and docketing management software (web repository or in-house).
  7. Analyzes and reviews various documents as required by lawyers. Prepares documents, such as statistical charts and graphs.
  8. Performs due diligence searches, obtains docket sheets and other court papers utilizing electronic means such as PACER. Utilizes legal research software such as Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis for case retrieval and citation reference.
  9. Communicates, corresponds and interacts with clients and outside entities, such as government agencies, consultants, corporations and other law firms to gather information or data.
  10. Complies with department and firm administrative procedures and policies.
  11. Assists with department projects as needed and performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Legal Services Manager.
  12. Responsible for billing a minimum of 1600 hours of client-related projects and other credited work.
  13. Some lifting of boxes up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree, a minimum of one to two years solid experience and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the litigation process.  The position involves significant contact with lawyers, paralegals and other professionals and requires strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.  The entry-level paralegal must be a self-starter, highly organized and a team player.

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

 

Washington, D.C.: $63,700 - $92,350 

 

Working Conditions

This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
