Overview

Lead and support strategic initiatives for the Strategic Transactions Practice Group across practice strategy, business development, financial management, competitive intelligence, and profile-raising activities. Partner closely with Practice Development Director, Managers, Practice Group Leaders (PGLs), Specialty Group Leaders (SGLs), attorneys, and cross-functional professional staff to execute key priorities aligned with the firm’s and practice group’s overall strategy. Drive high-impact initiatives with a high degree of independence, strategic judgment, and collaboration, contributing to the growth, market positioning, and operational success of the practice groups.

Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of strategic initiatives for the Strategic Transactions practice group in collaboration with practice development leadership, PGLs, SGLs, and partners.
  • Manage legal directory submissions and rankings processes, including research, matter collection, reference coordination, submission drafting, and maintenance of historical rankings and practice data.
  • Lead coordination and execution of practice group, and strategic initiative meetings, including agenda development, presentation management, meeting logistics, follow-up tracking, and advancement of key action items and strategic priorities.
  • Oversee updates and enhancements to practice group intranet pages, internal knowledge management resources, website content, and other practice materials.
  • Monitor and maintain practice group data, rankings trackers, matter audits, and other reporting resources to support strategic planning and market visibility efforts.
  • Coordinate and support lateral partner integration efforts, including development of onboarding schedules and integration plans, stakeholder coordination, and tracking progress against key milestones.
  • Partner with Business Development, Marketing, Finance, Lateral Recruiting, Professional Development, Operations, Legal Services, and other business support functions to support strategic practice and client initiatives.
  • Support targeted client development, prospecting, and thought leadership initiatives through research, outreach coordination, and collaboration with attorneys and business development leadership.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for junior team members by demonstrating leadership, accountability, collaboration, and best practices in business development and practice support.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.  
  • Law firm, professional services or corporate experience strongly preferred; experience supporting intellectual property, M&A, capital markets, or other transactional practices is a plus
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, work independently, and take initiative.
  • Ability to compile, review and determine logical conclusions or recommendations based on qualitative and quantitative data and information which is varied in content and format.
  • Demonstrates aptitude for data analytics to support the team’s growing need for data-driven insights and reporting.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use technology, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Ability to establish credibility with Ropes & Gray attorneys and professional staff, to bring to bear the right mix of confidence, tact and persistence in working with the firm’s lawyers and professional staff.

Compensation and Total Rewards Package

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

 

Boston: $101,900 - $155,350

New York: $111,100 - $169,450

Working Conditions

This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
